The atmosphere in Jatiluwih Rice Terraces is very calming. Walking through the fields, I could see the traditional subak irrigation system in action, which made the experience even more special. If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, this is the perfect tour.

The UNESCO Jatiluwih Rice Terrace and Batukaru Ancient Temple tour is a scenic and cultural journey through the heart of Bali’s highlands. Designed for nature lovers and culture seekers, this experience reveals a quieter and more spiritual side of the island, where dramatic rice terraces, sacred mountain landscapes, and ancient traditions still shape everyday life.

The experience begins at Jatiluwih, one of Bali’s most breathtaking rural landscapes and a site recognized by UNESCO for its traditional subak irrigation system. Spreading across the foothills of Mount Batukaru, the rice terraces of Jatiluwih offer a striking panorama of layered green fields that reflect centuries of harmony between people, water, and nature. Guests will have time to enjoy a leisurely walk through the terraces, take photographs, and appreciate the peaceful atmosphere of one of Bali’s most iconic agricultural regions.

During the visit, your guide will share insight into the importance of the subak system, a traditional Balinese method of water management that reflects not only agricultural skill but also the island’s spiritual and communal philosophy. This makes Jatiluwih more than just a beautiful landscape. It is also a living cultural heritage site that continues to support rural life in Bali today.

After exploring the terraces, guests can enjoy a scenic lunch stop at a local restaurant overlooking the rice fields (lunch at own expense). This relaxing break adds another opportunity to take in the sweeping natural views while enjoying the cool and refreshing atmosphere of the highlands.

The journey then continues deeper into the forested slopes of Mount Batukaru, where the sacred Luhur Batukaru Temple awaits. Surrounded by dense tropical greenery and often wrapped in mist, this ancient temple is known for its calm atmosphere, cool mountain air, and deep spiritual presence. Unlike some of Bali’s busier temples, Batukaru offers a quieter and more contemplative experience, making it especially appealing for travelers who appreciate hidden cultural sites and peaceful settings.

As one of Bali’s important mountain temples, Luhur Batukaru Temple holds strong spiritual significance and reflects the connection between the sacred mountain realm and the communities below. Its natural setting, silence, and understated beauty make it one of the island’s most memorable temple visits.

This tour is ideal for guests who want to experience the deeper soul of Bali through its landscapes, traditions, and sacred places. Combining rural beauty, UNESCO-recognized heritage, and mountain spirituality, it offers a meaningful and refreshing escape from Bali’s busier areas.
